Meeting with Treacle People

After making the tests for the brief, I had a meeting with Paddy (vocalist) and Joe (Guitarist) to discuss their thoughts on the colour scheme and general art style for the piece. They were happy with the work I have created so far (after I explained that these designs would be moving and properly animated in the final piece. Paddy seemed to have a vision for certain parts of the music video in particular and was very useful when discussing creative ideas.

They liked the fact that the piece would be on a black background and also liked the colour scheme that I had thought was appropriate for the piece.

The basic plan we discussed was:

Intro & First verse - All black and white line drawing, focusing on camera angles the give a point of interest.

First chorus - Colour introduced and shapes (?)

Guitar solo - mainly close ups, stings different colours (?)

Outro - Block colour introduced.

At this meeting Paddy also expressed an interest in Rorschach images at the start of the song where there is only instrumentals. I really like this concept and I think it will be really strong if I am able to animate the ink spreading in and out in time with the music. That will be what I look into as the next part of the project.

Paddy and Joe also wanted me to involve a romantic female partner into the rotoscope as the song is meant to be, Paddy puts it 'The foreshadowing for the end of a relationship". When you know something is going to end soon but it's just a matter of time, hence the title and lyric "Something wicked this way comes"

I will considering the notes they gave me when continuing further in this project. I have found this element of the process to help me become more equipped to become a freelance animator and working to a clients specifications.
